Baxter seems sort of sad. He had a home for years and now is all alone. Although he is middle age, he is in great shape with no health issues, and walks very nicely on a leash. He is sweet and loving and quiet and just a really, really nice dog. Baxter would be an easy addition to your home and a great companion to keep you company. He is the perfect dog for someone who is looking for a laid back/low energy dog. Baxter is getting more comfortable with everyone at the kennel. One of our volunteers said that he is great on the leash and very calm. He is also sweet and affectionate. Another volunteer reported running into two cats while walking Baxter. Baxter looked at the cats, and they looked at him. The cats did not react to him, nor did he react at all to them. He simply laid down right next to the area where they were (they could have touched each other). When walking by the play yards, Midge and Hennessey were in one of the play yards, and none of them seemed to mind the other being there--no barks, no growls, and no anxiety. Baxter sniffed the other dogs but did not react to them. Baxter did not want to play ball or get in the pool, but his tail was wagging and he liked being petted. He will make someone a wonderful pet and has a nice demeanor. Earlier report - Baxter is a black Lab mix who weighs about 53 pounds. He is scared at the shelter and still getting used to all of the noise of the other dogs. Baxter did live inside and has never been away from his past owner for long periods of time. So, we are letting him get used to everything. He is 7 years old. Baxter is a sweet dog who likes to cuddle and be close to his owner. He also likes head and belly rubs. Baxter walks nicely on a leash, and he enjoys running and playing in the yard, chasing birds and squirrels. He also likes rawhide bones and stuffed animals. Baxter will chase motorcycles, so his new owner needs to be careful when walking him. Baxter also enjoys getting dried off after getting wet. Baxter is afraid of thunderstorms and does not like to go out in the rain. He also does not like being left alone for long periods of time. Of course, he does not like the vacuum cleaner, but most dogs do not. Baxter also has a phobia of people with hats, so you will need to be careful of that. He is a cute dog and just needs a new home.
